Festival focused on raising awareness of City’s new recycling program
Bloomington residents on the west side will get the chance to win prizes, eat free food and help our planet at the same time. The goal of the West Side Recycle Fest, scheduled for February 18th at the Western Avenue Community Center, is to introduce recycling education to families in a fun way.
“We’re bringing this event to the Western Avenue Community Center because we want to connect with the diverse communities the center serves,” says Karen Schmidt, Alderwoman for Bloomington’s Ward 6. “This is a great opportunity to continue to spread the word about the positive impact that recycling has on our whole community.”
The family event will feature games, prize drawings and free snacks. The festival will also include presentations from city leaders and recycling experts. Information will be provided about Bloomington’s new single-stream recycling program scheduled to debut this summer.
“We are excited to get the community more engaged as we move toward an automated cart system,” says Jim Karch, director of Public Works for the City of Bloomington. “The city has invested a lot to make sure people can recycle as easily as possible. We hope to inspire our neighbors on the west side to strengthen and preserve our environment.”

We are currently working on implementing a change to the newsletter. This change will be invisible to most of you, however, it will show a summary of the articles with links to the full article. This will also automate the process of sending out the newsletter by compiling the articles from the last week of posts to the website and generating a newsletter only if there are posts.
We will also shortly be adding the ability for you to pick if you get a daily, weekly or monthly newsletter, to better suite your needs.
This is the first time this new format has been used by us and hope you like the change.
